Ok Gang, I went to Barrier Motors in Bellevue Washington and they were able to reset my radio,(for free I might add) it was a bit more involved than programing in 4 numbers. They had to remove the face plate and dig deep to find the little gizmo that resets the radio.I got lucky that there was somebody on staff today that actually knows how use it. According to them the 'Other Mercedes dealer' sends all radio problems of this type to Barrier.
The younger Techs don't know how to use the gizmo and nearly sent me away. I have the Becker grand prix electronic with the display as wide as the tape deck, it displays little dashes that look like this - - - - in the display window when the anti theft has been tripped. I hope if anyone else has this problem that your dealer ship has the little gizmo and there will be an old hand on duty to help you out. My father has a 1985 300d with a Becker Grandprix radio. The car did not have an owner's manual so there are no instructions for the radio.
Does anyone know how to set the radio presets? Also there appears to be no way of manually tunning the radio. By this I mean you can't go up a couple of freqs. His radio has an 'automatic' button that seeks out the strongest signal, but doesn't let you select the station of your choice. Any insight in how to work these Beckers would be appreciated - 1980 MB 300SD 1999 VW Passat Wagon.
