Still in the air about rather it is right for me. I used the duet last night to record two songs with a vocalist. Earlier in the day I spent time testing the apogee with numerous mics recording various instruments.organ, guitar, sax. I used the duet last night to record two songs with a vocalist.

Earlier in the day I spent time testing the apogee with numerous mics recording various instruments.organ, guitar, sax etc. I thing the conversion is amazing and the preamps are beefy.

I thought they made my mackies sound way better than my firebox does and the gain is about 25dbs louder with out any real destortion. I have a few complaints about the unit. It was quitting logic 8 all of a sudden, something I have never seen happen on my computer. It did this about 5 times, but finally stopped later into the recording, when I was working with the vocalist.

I also was bugged by the inability to change the volume of the headphones and monitors separately. The volumes can only be the same, so if you monitor while tracking someone in isolation, you have to turn down the monitors or keep them the same as the headphone mix.

I am also not feeling the fact that if you want to use a device with a fire wire connect at the sametime and have a macbook like i have, you will need to get a hub because you can not daisy chain. I am also not a fan of the break out cable. It seems like if you want to travel with this machine, you will eventually need to replace the cable. All in all, it blows my firebox out of the water sound wise, but has a lot of functionality issues, or at least with my recording style. Expensive Fuzz Pedal, CRAPOGEE, Interface. This interface would be the greatest fuzz pedal if only it was $50.

I'm not kidding, killer fuzz. Only one problem though.

It's not a fuzz pedal its an interface. This interface would be the greatest fuzz pedal if only it was $50. I'm not kidding, killer fuzz. Only one problem though. It's not a fuzz pedal its an interface. I can't believe I wasted money on this piece of junk.

I've been using it with Logic now for about 3 months and as soon as things are getting good in my session, here it comes. 'MR FUZZ FACE'.

Everything is fuzzy, even iTunes and internet and all sound. Sure, its an easy fix. Let me just turn switch it back to built in and then back right??? This will cause computer to Crash and Burn. Again this would be cool except for the fact that every minute counts and when it comes to getting your work done. Apogee sure knows how to suck your time away.

It'll take at least 15 minutes to figure out why its not responding, then Hold down your power button so your computer can shut off and reboot, then you can uninstall the VIRAL Maestro Crapware and then it will prompt you to reboot again and then once that has rebooted for a second time, you can reinstall and then it will ask you to reboot for a third time. If you're looking for an interface that works and sounds good, I would go back to PreSonus Firebox. I never should have sold that. It worked great and I was over taken by hype of the CRAPOGEE.Matt Shockley. Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: I have been using this interface for 2 months now and I have not had a doubt in my mind that this is a flawless product. There has been no second guessing, and I haven't looked back.

I had it installed and integrated with logic pro 8 within five minutes, and it has worked flawlessly ever since. The pre-amps and converters give a wide open sound. If you've got good sounds going in, you'll get good sounds on the other side. I've used this as a D.I. For bass and electric guitar, and with mics for vocals as well with pleasing results.

It sounds great, the controls are intuitive, and if you are a decent engineer recording decent sounds, you'll be pleased with the outcome. Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: If you work in Logic, Apogee products are a no-brainer, and if you're operating a small home studio, the Duet is perfect.

The preamps are phenomenal, the interface is sleek and easy, and the integration with Logic is absolutely perfect. After using it for the last year, and having experience with other hardware, I can honestly say I will always look to Apogee first. I can't stress how much the preamps make this interface? The sound is unparalleled for the price! Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: I've had several cheapish interfaces over the years (mBox, eMagic interface, several mAudio interfaces etc., and I've also worked in studios with Mytek converters, as well as Apogee Symphony systems. This seems like the best interface, for anyone looking for portability. And it is definitely the best audio quality you'll get for the price. It's extremely small and lightweight, feels well made and it sounds incredible.

I use it with Logic Studio on a Macbook and it has worked perfectly.I was skeptical about the single knob operation, but it actually works quite well. You just lightly push it down to toggle between mic 1, mic 2 and output levels and it's very responsive. Also, this thing is just cool.

It's pretty amazing to me that they were able to design something that sounds so good and also looks so good and well made/designed. It's really exciting that this kind of quality is available for such a reasonable price. Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: I'm somewhat new to home recording, but have been playing and writing music for a long time. I started out with an M-Audio Fast Track and was very unhappy with my sound quality, wanted to be able to do recordings from home that were mix worthy and professional all the way. After much deliberation on which new interface to go with I quickly caught wind of the Duet. I was a bit apprehensive about the price, but wanted the best sound quality and was willing to sacrifice for it. Long story short, you get what you pay for!

The Apogee Duet delivers! I use a Power Mac G4 running Leopard. I connected my Apogee after installs and it was immediately recognized by Logic and Garageband. Upon plugging in my bass and hitting a note, 'wow!'

The clarity is amazing on this cool interface. I can really hear the true sound of my bass now, not all muddy and muffled. It's built very well, is surprisingly light and is uber-easy to function. Even looks cool! If you have the mulla and want quality, buy this. Better than every presonus, mackie, m-audio and motu in its class/range HANDS DOWN!

Of course if you want more inputs you'll have to think otherwise. Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: This thing is the bomb. I was skeptical cause of the reviews that said there were alot of complaints about hissing but that is people not knowing how to set their levels right and not knowing anything about stage gaining or pre sets like compress and eq. I got this thing and the first thing i said was wow.

I am use to having hiss because i had a firestudio mobile and let me tell ya. For 500 dollars you cant find a better pre amp and firewire unit for a mac. I love this thing and it is a beast. I am using a gain hungry sm7b and it is crystal clear. If it can handle a sm7 then it can handle just about anything. What are you waiting for. BUY IT NOW!!!!

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: Not long ago I was bemoaning - 'All I want is a simple stereo interface to record with! Is that too much to ask?' This is THE thing. Fantastic A/D and D/A 24/96 convertors, superb preamps for mics (with phantom power!), guitars, keys and balanced signal line ins (-10 dB and +4 dB) all powered from your computer via a firewire interface.

Imagine taking your Apple laptop and a stereo mic and being able to record hi def 24/96 astounding stereo recordings virtually anywhere! Apple and Apogee have finally done it. The 'killer app' for music. Truly genius. Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: Ive seen this out for a few years and always thought how nice it is for people to get their hands on an Apogee for this little money. Now they have the baby brother out (The 'One') which is great for people who only record one source at a time.

So with all this greatness, why would a company of this stature only create their audio interfaces for MAC only? Sure, Macs are great and Ive owned several Macs, I just don't have one now and PC's work just fine for me at almost a fourth of the cost. Anyway, if you have Mac then this is a great way to get world-class conversion for peanuts. One guy mentioned the cheap breakout cable failing on him but here is some good advice. Get that custom breakout box made for the Duet by EMT Labs. Its called the 'EMT Labs Duet Breakout' Just google the name and choose the one with mercenary in the name. For around a hundred bucks this breakout box makes the Duet much nicer.

Now if only Apogee only liked PC. Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: This interface would be the greatest fuzz pedal if only it was $50. I'm not kidding, killer fuzz. Only one problem though. It's not a fuzz pedal its an interface. I can't believe I wasted money on this piece of junk.

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: So holy freak. This thing is so clear its really unbelievable.

I love the design. It looks freagin tight sitting on your desk. It is really easy to use and works seamlessly with my MacBook Pro. This thing really makes the biggest difference in clarity. Now if you are looking for something that adds some 'color' to your sound, then this WOULD NOT be what you want.

The apogee's pre-amp isn't one made for coloring your sound, it's made to be completely 'color-free'. So you get pretty much EXACTLY what you are hear from vocals or instruments.no coloration. It's a beautiful and amazing product. Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: I used the duet last night to record two songs with a vocalist. Earlier in the day I spent time testing the apogee with numerous mics recording various instruments.organ, guitar, sax etc. I thing the conversion is amazing and the preamps are beefy.

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: For the price this thing is the best in its class.

I have used the Ensemble, and they sound identical. It blows my M-Box Pro out of the water, though the M-Box wins in the hardware software integration field, and Logic still can't top the v.8.0 ProTools. This product is innovative and great for space saving. I use it specifically for the A/D conversion, which could put a baby to sleep, warm and clean. Even if you use ProTools predominantly, get this thing to do some tracking (in Logic Express) and work with Pro Equipment for under 1500 Dollars. Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: This looks great, sounds pretty good (just a touch of latency, if you listen real close), works with Mac and Mac software great.

My only complaint is that I don't like have to keep pushing the big button to toggle through the channel and output controls, and I think the break out cable was a bad idea. I work in pretty cluttered spaces, at times, and having just a couple of extra cables, regardless of how short, can be a big headache, for me. I also think that it was a bit overpriced, but it is made in the USA, so I guess from an ethical and patriotic standpoint, I can feel good about that.Overall, if it died on me, I would check out other (less expensive) options before rushing out to buy another one. While at the same time I feel happy with the purchase, so I am not going to be returning it. Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: This interface completely sucks. Although I must say, it has brought me closer to GOD because everytime I go to use I say a prayer that it will work right. What you put into it definatley does not come out of it.

Unless of course you love fuzz. You know like that Fuzz you get on you teeth 3 days out of brushing them. I just don't trust this product at all. I wish it was before the exchange period becuase theis thing wouldn't even be a memory. Well I hope Apogee puts my money to good use, because I certainly didnt. Save your self money and a headache, go to FRAPPOGEE instead of this CRAPOGEE.

Comments about Apogee Duet Firewire Interface: Decided to drop more than pocket change on a serious product and I haven't regretted it. Unfortunately, I got a defective unit which caused some lovely static-type effect. But Apogee email support worked quickly and determined the problem, which ended up with a brand-new unit in my hands. Nice! The quality of this unit will reveal the other weak links in your signal chain.

Never knew how noisy my mics were until I tracked with this little guy. Downside is that there isn't an overabundance of headroom for dynamic sources and there's no effects send/return on the unit itself. Break-out cables are so-so quality. Baby them because they're thin.

But they're still a great, portable solution to having 8 more jacks on the device itself.Overall, a great, high-quality solution for 2-channel recording on the mac.

This used Apogee Duet FireWire Interface comes with the Breakout Cable and a 6-pin to 8-pin Firewire Cable. Condition: This unit is in good condition with normal wear, has been fully tested, and works great. Please see pictures for details on item condition.
